I need to say something here….

The first time I knew about CyberChess was probably in June or July. I applied and successfully got the chance to join the first beta test on BinaryX Twitter after I found out that a new game will be released from BinaryX. From beta test 1, beta test 2 till now, 6th week of official launch, I have been an early player for the game. Therefore, I posted a picture here for my eligibility for the tutorial and hopefully you can learn something from it.

Here we will only talk about the methods of building a strong team while sharing personal experience on playing the games together with some useful fundamental information. Not financial advice, I am just sharing my ways of thinking with you about how to play the game in effective and efficient ways. Hope it helps!

The following content is probably useful for some novice players while masters/challengers can save your time.

If you have played other TFT games or been playing CyberChess, please continue scrolling down.

If you have not played this type of game or just learned about CyberChess, I strongly recommend you to check the CyberChess Wiki first. Just read through CyberChess Wiki, the content inside is quite useful for novice players.

Team of Heroes & Basics Info

The team of heroes is the combination or configuration of 5–7 heroes with 2–3 stars equipped with skills, which will be crucial for you to get the highest ranking possible and beat all others in games. It is a part where you need to invest in CyberChess. According to goals you set up and your budget, you can consider how to configure your team of heroes to get better game experience and gain profit from your investment.

About Hero Pool & Strength of Heroes

Hero Pool is mainly composed of 5–50 heroes. As we know, nine 1-star heroes can merge into one 3-star hero. The higher quality heroes in the hero pool are, the higher purity of their merged 3-star heroes, that is, the higher strength. However, even if all heroes in the hero pool are used for the match, the upper limit of 50 heroes determines that only 5 3-star heroes can be merged.

Assuming that the game turns to the late stage and there are 7 slots, inevitably, the hero’s purity and stars of heroes will be affected. When we are in this kind of situation, how can we solve the dilemma? My approach is to divide my heroes in my hero pool and their corresponding skill combinations into two categories: offensive type and functional type. Based on the strategies in each game, I will just upgrade functional heroes to 2 stars, or let these heroes reach 2 stars first and then use some cards without skills as materials to raise them to 3 stars. The number of $Gold for each game is limited, we need to make the best use of the limited resources.

Upgraded Stats (ATK, HP, DEF, ADF) = [100% of Main Hero’s stat] + [30% of Material One’s stat] + [30% of Material Two’s stat]

(The above content is from CyberChess Wiki. It is recommended for players to read as there are many essentials.)

To some extent, due to luck or other reasons, you need to give up some stats to quickly upgrade your heroes to 3-star. Based on the upgrade formula, there are not as many attributes lost as expected, but these attributes may be the key to victory. Hence you should avoid losing too many attributes during the merge.

Proportion of Hero Pool

To some extent, both the number of different occupations and the number of heroes in each occupation in the hero pool will affect the probability of heroes available to buy in the in-game shop. That’s why the ratio and numbers of heroes in different occupations are very important. It determines whether you can quickly synthesize heroes you need in the game. Furthermore, it will have impacts on your strategies and paces of the game hence eventually determining the result of the game.

For example, there are 5 occupations in your hero pool and each type has 10 heroes. So the 5 types of heroes are equal in proportion. Although the in-game shop will not show 5 different occupations of heroes every time, the probability of each type of heroes appearing in shops does not have a huge difference. But if you add one in a certain class of the hero to make ti 11, and reduce one from another hero class to make it 9, the total amount will not change but it will affect the heroes’ proportion. Meanwhile, the probability of these two types of heroes showing in the in-game shop will also be affected. Adding a specific class of heroes will increase the chance to buy it in the in-game shop while reducing another class of heroes will correspondingly decrease the probability of it appearing in shop. From the above you can know how the proportion of hero pool affects the probability of different occupations of heroes showing in the in-game shop.

Research on Hero Attributes & How to Select Strong Heroes

Hero Attributes are divided into 2 categories: Offensive and Defensive. For the specific role of each attribute, please see the following content quoted from CyberChess Wiki:

Offensive

- Strength (STR): Affects damage of melee heroes

- Intelligence (INT): Affects damage of spell casters

- Attack (ATK): The damage value of hero

Defensive

- Constitution (COM): Affects hero’s Health

- Agility (AGI): Affects Dodge Rate

- Willpower (MND): Affects Physical Defense

- Spirit (SPI): Affects Magic Defense

- Health (HP): The total damage a hero may take before dying

Calculation

Melee Hero ATK = STR*(1+0.05*Hero Level-1))

Spell Caster ATK = INT*(1+0.05*Hero Level-1))

HP = 50*COM*(1+0.05*(Hero Level-1))

Defense (DEF): Used to calculate the reduced physical damage

DEF = MND*(1+0.05*(Hero Level-1))

Magic Defense (RGS): Used to calculate the reduced magical damage

RGS = SPI*(1+0.05*Hero Level-1))

“0.05*(Hero Level-1)” in the formula applies to all upgraded hero stats. At present, heroes who have already had levels are imported from CyberDragon.

The characteristics of each hero class determine the preference for selection of specific attributes for heroes. When in a team, heroes who play the role of a tank can consider more about defensive attributes whereas heroes who play an offensive role can consider more about their offensive attributes. Heroes who are in functional roles can focus more on relevant attributes based on the functions needed. You can attach more importance to ability to survive, such as HP, magical and physical resistance, as survival to the end of the game is the primary principle.

The four-dimensional attributes are the attributes derived from the basic attributes. Only the four-dimensional attributes are displayed in the match, which are melee/spell attack, HP, DEF, and RGS. Four-dimensional attributes can enjoy the benefits of hero upgrade as it will grow along with the upgrading

As for physical and magical resistance, that is, DEF and RGS, as long as you are beaten hard enough, maybe you will pay attention to resistances and HP again.

There is also a concept of valid properties, that is, attributes that affect a specific class of heroes are effective attributes. For example, Warrior, its valid properties are STR, COM, AGI, MND and SPI. INT does not have influence on warriors which is an invalid attribute. One more concept is that, heroes with good basic attributes can have valid properties of 300+ or even higher. But it doesn’t mean that a hero with valid properties of 300+ must be a hero with good attributes. Valid properties are just a reference for selecting heroes. Sometimes heroes have extreme attributes so we can not simply consider its valid properties to determine whether it’s good or not.

Methods and Suggestions of obtaining Heroes and Skills

There are two major methods for obtaining heroes and skills: spend $GOLD in Summoning Altar or go shopping in the CyberChess marketplace with $BNB. Heroes’ skills can be only obtained within games. For more detailed instructions and methods, please check relevant information in CyberChess Wiki.

Summoning heroes and skills in Summoning Altar will give you a chance to summon heroes and skills with ideal attributes. Sometimes you can summon the best ones with high values of attributes. Meanwhile, it is also possible to summon mediocre heroes and skills. In the mean time, you can take a look in the marketplace. If you are lucky, you can summon a hero or skill which can be sold at a higher price in the marketplace than its original cost. In contrast, you should also take the risk into consideration as you are not lucky all the time.

Marketplace can be regarded as the “Ebay or Amazon” of CyberChess. You have a good chance to purchase items of high value with relatively low prices here. Generally speaking, it is a relatively stable source to obtain heroes and skills since you can buy them at market price. What you should pay attention to is that the skills that you need to build a strong team may have a high market price here.

And another source of obtaining heroes is to import your CyberDragon heroes (staked heroes cannot be imported). Imported heroes also have levels and you can check the detailed information about the conversion of levels and attributes in the first part. Before importing heroes, you should check the attributes of your heroes in “Asset Transfer” (please make sure your heroes are already in your wallet, which you used to log in the game). Please notice that once you import heroes from CyberDragon, you cannot export them out again. There is no turning back for this operation because it’s irreversible and you should take this into consideration before importing.

My suggestions about obtaining heroes and skills are as follows: You can summon in Summoning Altar first and then fill up skills and heroes you need for a whole build-up team from the marketplace. If you summon some mediocre or repetitive heroes, you can put them on sale in the marketplace.

Upgrading Heroes & Relevant Suggestions

The upgrade of the hero is a recent update. You can upgrade your heroes in Summoning Altar. It will take 5 heroes as material to upgrade your main hero. Upgrading from lv1 to lv2 is the cheapest, which only requires 5 material heroes without other cost. It can also obtain 5% growth in four-dimensional attributes. Besides consuming 5 heroes as materials in each upgrade, you need to pay the upgrade fee for upgrading lv2-lv9 heroes, which is 1BNX, 2BNX, 3BNX, 8BNX, 10BNX, 12BNX and 14BNX equivalent of gold respectively. The fee for upgrading increases along with level. You need 50BNX in total as an upgrade fee to upgrade a hero from lv1 to lv9. It is most cost-effective to upgrade your hero to lv5 and your upgraded hero can get 20% growth of four-dimensional attributes as long as you have enough budget.

It is recommended to upgrade heroes with better attributes so that your upgraded hero can enjoy a higher growth of four-dimensional attributes. However, you might gain more advantages for the team fight from strengthening what your team’s weakest point instead of obtaining heroes with stunning attributes.

Imported Heroes from CyberGragon&Relevant Suggestions

About the importing process of CyberDragon heroes, please check the relevant information in CyberChess Wiki.

In CyberChess, there is no limit to the number of CyberDragon heroes that can be imported. However, in matches, you can only add 10 CyberDragon heroes to the matchmaking hero pool. Due to the limit, it is recommended to import your heroes with better attributes and higher levels. Because the cost of upgrading heroes in CyberChess is quite high.

If you have some CyberDragon heroes, you can import one suitable hero with decent attribute and level to CyberChess as the core of your team. Then you can finish setting up the team based on what kind of core hero you have. In this way, you can reduce the cost for your team and also speed up the building-up process.

Building up Your Team of Heroes

Your Team of Heroes

CyberChess, like other games, also has different overpowered heroes in different versions. With several iterations and updates, the dev has been working hard to make adjustments to the balance of the game to adapt to different players’ gaming experience and to ensure a healthy and sustainable development of the game’s ecosystem. In each version, there would be a dominating composition of heroes that would beat other types of team given the strengthening and weakening adjustments that dev made on skills. Therefore, a more balanced hero collection will allow you to maintain your edge in various versions of the game and ensure you a stable and efficient ranking experience

Your Target Rank and Suggestions on How to Build Up Your Team

First of all, there is no absolute equation on how much money you should invest to reach the target rank. The upper and lower limits of your target rank depend on various factors such as your strategy, your heroes’ strength, your gameplay style and your luck.

If you don’t have a high target rank, it means that you don’t need to invest a lot of money. In order to strike a balance between your investment and returns, it is recommended to build up a starter team. You can get heroes from the Day1-Day3 Tyro Benefits, promo code, Summoning Altars, marketplace, importing heroes, etc. You can invest and collect an adequate number of heroes at first, then you can start playing the game. Once you find that you cannot get to the Top 4 anymore, it’s time to consider how to be stronger, which you can enhance your weakest point of the team, or change your game strategy, or strengthen your core heroes.

If your target rank is diamond and above, it means that you have to invest some money to reach the target. I would suggest that you can build up a relatively complete team of heroes through importing heroes, Summoning Altar, marketplace, etc. After that, you can play the game to improve your ranks until you cannot guarantee a Top 4 in the game. Then you could start to consider how to strengthen your team, which you can choose to enhance your weakest point of the team, to change your game strategy, or to strengthen your core heroes.

You may have a question: why not just building the strongest team from the very beginning? If you have enough funds, it is possible to do it. But still, CyberChess is a gamefi. Besides the gaming experience, we need to think carefully on how to get a better return from our investment. Rational investment is highly recommended. In the early stage, it is better to invest in your team to an extent that it is just able to win the game. After fighting a lot of games, you will gradually build a thorough understanding about the game that will help you determine which direction of upgrading would suit you best. Hence it would be a much more sensible way to make your investment decisions.

I would suggest that if you want to have a sustainable return from CyberChess, you should have a comprehensive hero pool . It is not advised to build up a team of 50 warriors because it will bring you a much higher cost when you need to change your team. In my opinion, you should build up a hero pool that suits your lineup and strageties at first. Then, you can gradually strengthen your weakest points, even to buy classes of heroes you didn’t have before. Later, you can collect more skills to make your team more comprehensive.

Common Build-ups

We are going to talk about some builds-up I’ve met just to shed some light on team builds-up with different occupations. Practices are more important. These builds-up may not be suitable for everyone. Some of builds-up is only feasible on the basis of powerful heroes. Builds-up mentioned here are some basics and may differentiate in real matches. Sometimes one more knight is combined into the team or you may face an evolved builds-up from these basic types. You need to explore it in the game by yourselves.

Rogue & Mage & Priest

This build-up contains Rogue with shadow skill, Mage with blizzard skill and Priest with prayer skill and resurrect skill. The composition of heroes may vary from person to person. The Rogue’s shadow clone is in the front row, Mage stands in the back row for AOE damage and Priest assures the team’s endurance. It was the dominating build-up at the late stage of the game for previous versions. When you encounter this team, you won’t feel good when you see the HP of your heroes drop like a waterfall. After the weakening of priest’s skills, it is rare to see this build-up but those existing are very very strong with stunning attributes.

Warrior & Priest

The collaboration of Warrior and Priest is called the ‘knives’ team: 3–4 three-star Warriors with main skills of whirlwind and stun to ensure the team’s good performance at the early stage. Priests with prayer and resurrect skill assure the endurance of the team. There was time when I was always fighting with a bunch of Warriors & Priests or variants of the build-up in game, which made voice of “DuangDuangDuang” echo my head every day when I went to sleep. However, this build-up will be melted by blizzard skill when battling with the team with Mage at the late stage of the game.

Mage & Priest

1–2 three-star Mages with blizzard, 1 Priest with resurgence and 2–3 Priests with prayer compose a nightmare build-up before their healing amounts get nerfed. It’s a kind of torture when fighting with them. Built up on the Priest’s damage resistance, Priest is constantly using the big green circle to recover HP while Blizzard Mage continuously consumes the HP of the opponents. If you compete with other players who have the same build-up as yours, you may have to wait for the system to pick the winner for the round. It is a nightmare for players if they compete with this build-up. They don’t want to see it again!

So, that’s all! Enjoy youselves in CyberChess!!
